You Can Always Go Home grew out of a theme we didn’t fully recognize until we were deep into recording it: nearly every song, in one way or another, is about home. Sometimes that means literal home—missing a town, a family, or a place you left behind. Other times it’s about finding your people, your traditions, or a sense of belonging.
The title track was inspired by our bandmate Doug’s experience as an adoptee discovering and reconnecting with his birth family in Scotland. That story gave the album its emotional center. But then we realized songs like Spancil Hill, Come Back Paddy Reilly, and Wild Mountain Thyme were all circling the same idea—memory, identity, roots, and the pull of familiar places.
Musically, the album blends traditional Irish folk and dance tunes with a bit of our own Americana influence. We wanted it to feel lively and communal at times, reflective at others—like the atmosphere of an Irish pub or family gathering where people celebrate, tell stories, and remember where they came from. Whether you grew up with these songs or are hearing them for the first time, we hope they evoke that universal feeling that no matter how far you travel, some part of home always stays with you.
